Wind Chimes by Steven Rydarowski

We sit, cutting

short steel pipes to make

wind chimes.

the pipe cutter spins,

rips through steel gently,

much easier than a toothed saw.

No steel shavings fall

into the carpet.

The TV blares in front of us.

Political pundits talk of Congressional

hearings where no one

listens.

They read stories

of African-oppression,

liberal claptrap.

They tell us to buy

cars, stocks, cheese-stuffed-cheese, shampoo but not conditioner,

tampons and maxi-pads.

Everything blurring into the background

until all I hear

is the vice tightening.
